Adam Smith Monument (Alexander Stoddart)
High Street (Royal Mile) Edinburgh
Alexander Stoddart placed his monument to the Scottish economist, philosopher and author of The Wealth Of Nations, on a dressed sandstone pedestal looking down the ancient High Street towards the Scottish Parliament.
The sculptors design proposal for the pedestal was developed and redrafted by Stoneworks and fabrication drawings prepared. Polished and hand carved sandstone is used in the construction with 3mm beds and joints in keeping with the style of the surrounding buildings.
Bronze casting by Morris Singer Art Founders. Sandstone supply and dressing by Scottish Natural Stones. Project management, plinth construction and bronze installation by Stoneworks. Unveiled in 2008.
