St. Monans Parish Church

The origins of the church can be traced back to 875 when a shrine to St Monan was first established on the site. King David II Bruce ordered the building of a church in the 1300’s following his pilgrimage to the shrine and despite later alterations and restorations it is believed that much of the original construction remains. It is grade A listed.

The leaded windows on the south and east elevations of the nave were leaking, allowing rainwater to penetrate into the interior. The windows were removed for repairs and restoration and elements of stone tracery decayed beyond practical use removed and replaced with new units hand carved to match the original profiles. Limited stone indenting was carried out on the tower upper elevations and areas in need were re-pointed in lime mortar. Stone slates on the nave roof were replaced as necessary and new ridge stones supplied and laid.
