Musselburgh War Memorial
David Wright a local entrepreneur originally gifted the public drinking fountain to the residents of Musselburgh. The fountain had since fallen into disrepair and the local authority, in association with Musselburgh residents, decided that it should be reinvented as a war memorial.
The building was first cleaned using the Sponge Jet process to remove the pollution crust. A number of stone units decayed beyond practical use were then cut out and replaced. The course immediately below the cornice was replaced with new stone carved with the header inscription “WE GAVE OUR TODAY FOR YOUR TOMORROW”. Finally, new bronze panels were mounted on each corner to commemorate those who died in both world wars.
