St John’s R.C. Church Portobello

The redevelopment of the church interior required the relocation of the font, altar and altar rails. A photographic record was taken of the various hand carved marble and alabaster units before they were carefully dismantled, labelled and assembled in their new locations.

New marble units were supplied to provide a suitable backing for the old altar after it was moved to the rear of the church to make room for a more practical replacement.

In 2003 a new altar was supplied in Carrara marble and glass to the architects design and assembled on site.

A new lectern designed by Stoneworks to compliment the altar was supplied and installed in 2006.
